EACC’s faculty and staff is committed to providing students of all ages and stages of life access to high quality and affordable academic, technical and non-credit education.
Planning is underway for EACC’s 7th annual Children’s Theater Camp. This year’s camp will be presented by Compass Creative Dramatics, a Chicago-based educational theater that specializes in bringing week-long theater experiences to kids across the United States. Dates for this summer’s camp will be Monday – Friday, July 11th – 15th. The camp is sponsored by EACC’s Department of Continuing Education.
During the week-long camp, area students entering grades 1st – 12th will learn, play, and perform alongside professional actor/educators who will stretch their creativity and bravery muscles and help instill trust, responsibility, teamwork, and empathy. The theater camp program will culminate with a public performance on the “big” stage of the EACC Fine Arts Center. Monday – Friday rehearsals are required plus the final performance on Friday evening. No advance preparation is necessary, and every child will be cast in a role.
In this year’s theatrical performance of Peas & Harmony: The Princess & The Pea (Remixed), the trumpets blare and with them come swashbuckling jesters, dancing peas, a pompous royal entourage, and a zany collection of other delightful kingdom characters! Everyone is at odds when the time comes for the comic-book-loving prince to find the right girl amongst a gaggle of silly princesses.
Compass Creative Dramatics partners with organizations to offer quirky, engaging theater programming designed to provide arts enrichment and cultivate personal growth and character, while providing an opportunity to enhance theatre education and life skills training as well as arts programming. Since beginning with four weeks of summer camps in three states in 2013, Compass Creative Dramatics has grown to offer dozens of summer camps, spring camps, and residencies across the country, from Florida to Kentucky to Michigan, and has been recognized as a partner of the Chicago Park District and Waukegan Park District.
The camp will run Monday – Friday, July 11th – 15th. On Friday evening, July 15th, the cast members will present their public performance of Peas & Harmony: The Princess & The Pea (Remixed) on the main stage in the EACC Fine Arts Center at 6:00 pm.
