EACC Foundation's Jessie E. Smith Swindle Nursing Scholarships Awarded

Asia Purnell and Ashley McClellan, both of Wynne, Arkansas have been named recipients of the Jessie E. Smith Swindle Nursing Scholarship for the fall semester 2013.
The Jessie Smith Swindle Nursing Scholarship is dedicated to assisting full time EACC nursing students from Cross County, Arkansas. The award is $1000 per academic year, based on availability of funds to cover expenses of tuition, fees, books and supplies.
Asia Purnell is a graduate of Wynne High School and is currently enrolled in the Nursing Program at EACC. After graduation, she plans to attend Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and continue her education to become a Nurse Practitioner. “Receiving help makes me very happy and encourages me to keep helping others,” said Purnell.
Ashley McClellan is a graduate of Wynne High School and a nursing student at EACC. After graduating, she also plans to continue her education at Arkansas State University to become a Nurse Practitioner. She hopes to one day work in the pediatrics division of a hospital or family clinic. “It is a complete honor to receive this scholarship that will help pay for my fees toward my education in nursing,” said McClellan.
The family of Jessie Smith Swindle established this scholarship to honor her memory and to show support for nursing education which was such an important part of her life. At age 50, Jessie began her training to become an LPN. Once completed, she had a nursing career that spanned 22 years in Cross County, Arkansas. The Jessie Smith Swindle Scholarship is made possible through the generosity of her son, Ronald K. Swindle and his wife, Minette Clarke-Swindle.
