Forrest City- East Arkansas Community College presented an honorary degree to Oral Edwards, long-time supporter and former chair and member of the EACC Board of Trustees, on Friday, May 10th during the Commencement Ceremony.
Dr. Coy Grace, EACC President, made the special presentation. “Tonight, we honor a recipient who has been a long-time supporter of EACC and its mission, this community, the state of Arkansas, and our region. Throughout the years, he has humbly shown his love of people, individual cultures, the arts, and the well-being of others.”
Dr. Grace recounted many examples of contributions to projects, events, education, and the numerous boards and organizations in which Mr. Edwards has served. “Monetarily, he has contributed to churches, organizations, foundations, fundraisers, and individuals. He has supported many students through tuition scholarships and provided encouragement as those students successfully completed their degrees,” said Grace.
“His leadership in building a successful business has proven his desire to succeed and his vision to impact and prosper the communities his company serves. He has been determined to bring opportunities to others and has inspired many others to do the same,” said Grace. “He has a lifetime of accomplishments and has used them to generate hope and guidance to those less fortunate,” said Grace.
“He recognizes the importance of education, and although he has encouraged so many others to attend college, in the midst of his many accomplishments, he has yet to receive a college degree, until tonight,” said Grace. After the presentation of Edwards’ Honorary Doctorate of Humanity degree, Edwards was congratulated by members of the EACC Board of Trustees.
