Forrest City- East Arkansas Community College will offer a unique training program this spring titled Troubleshooting Diesel Engines. Designed to assist farmers and others who work with diesel engines on a daily basis, this hands-on class will help those in agricultural settings learn how to perform proper preventative maintenance, diagnose problems, and make minor repairs to most any piece of equipment that depends on diesel, hydraulic, or electrical power, including irrigation power units. The training program is offered through the EACC Department of Continuing Education and Workforce Development. The program will be taught by Brett Hartman, EACC Diesel Technology Instructor.
“Our primary purpose is to provide any and everything we can to assist the area farmers,” said Tom Hale, EACC Counselor/Recruiter.
The program will meet on Fridays from January 20 – February 24, 2012. The classes will meet from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and will be held at the EACC Transportation & Technology Center located at 3600 North Washington in Forrest City.
The program will be taught in three modules and students have the option to take one, two or all three. Topics are: Diesel Engines: (January 20 and 27) and will focus on the maintenance of cooling systems, diagnosis and repair of fuel systems, and inspection and servicing of turbo charging systems, Basic Hydraulics: (February 3 and 10) will focus on basic principles, system components and pressure testing procedures, and Basic Electrical (February 17 and 24) will concentrate upon the diagnosis and repair of starting and charging systems and cab electrical systems. Participants will learn proper procedures for finding and repairing grounded or short circuits, testing batteries, testing starters for high amp draw and testing charging systems for low output.
“If you have to call someone out for a repair, you’re likely to spend $75.00 for a service call and $50.00 per hour. Wouldn’t you rather do it yourself and keep that money in your pocket?” said Brett Hartman,
For more information about the program call 870-630-2198 or 870-633-4480 ext. 333 or e-mail: chale@eacc.edu. Pre-registration is required. The cost of each module is $25 each or $60 if registering for all three modules at one time. This training program is supported by a Community-Based Job Training grant funded through the U.S. Department of Labor.
