The East Arkansas Community College Fine Arts Center Gallery is currently hosting Connections Old and New-an exhibition of works by Larry and Andrea Lugar of the Lugar Bronze Foundry. The show will run from Wednesday, November 2 through Friday, January 6, 2012.

Larry and Andrea Lugar operate Lugar Foundry, an art bronze casting facility. Now located in Eads, Tennessee, the foundry had its humble beginning at the Lugar home in Earle, Arkansas about 33 years ago. This show is a collection of works spanning from the early days in Earle to the present.
Although well-known individually as artists for their figurative and portraiture work in public spaces, much of their work also reflects their interests in horses, objects of nature, and landscape. Always closely connected to the visual import of the environment, both Lugars have from time to time translated elements of eastern Arkansas into art forms. The eclectic exhibition will feature a number of mediums including bronze sculptures, jewelry, ceramics, small bronzes, a 3-D series of pieces that showcase the ‘lost wax’ process of producing bronzes, and a number of paintings- many of which are landscapes that focus upon areas in and around Earle, Arkansas and Eads, Tennessee.
“When Lugar Foundry first became operational in 1978, our primary goal was to cast our own sculpture,” said Larry Lugar. “The mission of the foundry has evolved to encompass the philosophy espoused in the afore-mentioned quote. What was not anticipated in the first years of business was the great need in the art community for someone to listen and care as well as mechanically produce a three-dimensional piece of work. It quickly became obvious that the artistic spirit of many individuals needed an avenue for realization - therefore the growth of our foundry.”
There will be an ‘Artist Meet and Greet’ with both artists prior to the concert by The Blind Boys of Alabama on Thursday, November 10th from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Regular daily hours for the Fine Arts Center Gallery are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. or as scheduled for special group tours. There is no charge for admission. For more information call 870-633-4480 or visit our website at www.eacc.edu.
