A Christmas Carol will be the yuletide offering from the East Arkansas Community College Fine Arts Center Family Series. The production, suitable for children of all ages, will be performed on Sunday, December 11 at 3:00 p.m.
Perhaps the best loved holiday story of all time, this adaptation of Dickens’ classic is particularly suited to children, and features the script by Steve Perigard and a magnificent score by Paul Deiss. All the joy, sentiment and meaning are here, without being too scary or intense for young audiences. A Christmas Carol is produced and performed by Theatre IV of Richmond, Virginia.
Paul Deiss has written/co-written more than 50 one-act musical plays, all produced by professional theaters in Richmond, Virginia (and some beyond.) A Christmas Carol is one of his many works currently on tour with Theatre IV. This year marks the 21st anniversary of Paul’s Christmas serial, Drifty the Snowman, produced by Swift Creek Mill Theatre.
Author, director, Steve Perigard’s recent directing credits include Circle Mirror Transformation, A Thousand Clowns and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee for Barksdale Theatre, Anton in Show Business for Randolph Macon College, The Velveteen Rabbit for Theatre IV, Willy Wonka for SPARC, and Steel Magnolias and Noises Off for Company of Fools in Haley Idaho.
The timeless Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol begins as we meet Ebenezer Scrooge, a man of great wealth, but with little love for life. Scrooge's assistant, Bob Cratchit, tries to share the spirit of Christmas with his family and pleads with Scrooge for the holiday off. Scrooge is unconvinced about the joys of Christmas. As the evening commences, Scrooge comes face to face with ghosts and frightening visions of his past, present and even his future.
On Christmas morning, Ebenezer wakes up a changed man, thanking the spirits who helped him see the real truth about all life has to offer beyond wealth. Scrooge vows to keep the spirit of Christmas in his heart and honor it always. The first step towards a new life begins as old Ebenezer Scrooge sets off for the Cratchit home to make amends with the Cratchit family, including young Tiny Tim.
