EACC Humanities Department - Physical Education
Health and Physical Education (HPR) is one of the many disciplines in which the humanities department at EACC offers a variety of courses.
Many students take physical activity courses from the humanities department because they find them fun and energizing. They enjoy the physical and mental benefits of participating in physical activity while also earning college credit. Students do not have to be working toward a degree to take physical activity or health classes.
To earn the AA degree, 2 credit hours of physical activity are required. Many students are familiar with Concepts of Physical Education (HPR 1732) which fulfills the physical education requirement. However, two one-credit-hour activity courses can fulfill this requirement instead of the concepts course. A student can also take these physical activity courses as electives and for enjoyment. Equipment is provided for all physical activity courses.
For more information on HPR classes consult the EACC class schedule or instructor Callie Franks at cfranks@eacc.edu or contact the department chair, Cathie Cline (ccline@eacc.edu).
Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I enroll?
You contact the staff in the Betty Jo Hodges building for more information.
You can also learn more about enrolling in EACC on the college’s
website: http://www.eacc.edu and click on admissions.
Who can take physical activity and health courses for credit at EACC?
Just about anybody! Students taking humanities courses do not have to
be working toward a degree. Students must be at least 14 years of age,
but there is no maximum age to take courses at EACC. We strongly believe
that learning is a lifelong activity. In fact, seniors taking classes
for credit can qualify for reduced tuition or no tuition. See the EACC
website for more information.
Do all physical activity and health courses transfer to a four-year college
or university?
Students should always check the catalog of the university or college
to which they plan to transfer for transfer requirements, but in general,
health and physical activity courses are considered transferable.
Do all physical activity or health courses count toward my degree?
Check the specific requirements of the degree you are seeking to be sure.
Two physical activity courses (1 credit hour each) or Concepts of Physical
Activity (2 credit hours) can count toward fulfilling general education
(called gen ed) requirements for associate of arts degrees and bachelor
of arts degrees conferred by public institutions in the state of Arkansas.
Again, check the specific requirements of the degree you are seeking.
How many credit hours can I earn by taking a health or physical activity
course?
Look at the fourth digit of the course number. For example, HPR 1811 counts
for 1 credit hour; HPR 1732 counts for 2 credit hours; HPR 2203 counts
for 3 credit hours.
Where can I find a schedule of HPR courses? Look at the EACC website: www.eacc.edu. The current schedule is updated regularly.
